Weedpots are intended for things that do not…

require water: dried flowers, grasses, twigs, etc.  They have an opening in the top which is typically fairly small in diameter.  Just enough for a sprig or two.

Vases, on the other hand, have a waterproof insert in them; usually glass, but sometimes metal.  These inserts can be filled with water and a flower bud or bunch of fresh flowers, depending on the size.  Later, the inserts can be removed for cleaning, allowing the body of the vase to remain dry.

Naturally, vases can also be used to hold dry items as well.

Weedpots and Vases are generally fairly small.  Since they are mostly solid wood, they can get heavy as they get larger.

I enjoy making them because it allows for exploration of a broad range of shapes, styles and details, while not requiring quite as large an investment of time as do hollow forms.  They are also a great way to utilize smaller chunks of wood that may have wonderful color or grain, but that are not large enough for other projects.

The best part is that whether the contents placed inside are fresh or dry, they and the vessel always seem to compliment one another.
